Because the Gospel of Matthew emphasizes the testimony of the Old Testament Scriptures that Jesus is the Son of God, it reflects the earliest form of the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by the emerging New Testament church. The Gospel of Matthew was one of the most cited, exegeted, and preached books of the early church; thus, ranking it as the most prominent book during these early centuries. This book has experienced a resurgence of interest in recent years as seen by the increased number of modern commentaries dedicated this Gospel.

In relocating the theophanic heart of theology to the periphery of Christian dogma and spirituality, Augustine shaped a theology that eludes precisely those elements that are defining Eastern Orthodoxy. However, the type of theological investigation made possible by the shift away from “theophanic” theology is indispensable for the theological reflection of both Eastern and Western Christianity. Manchester Road (Route 100) follows an ancient path westward out of St. Louis, following the boundary between the Missouri and Meramec watersheds.
